Native American Dance
Native American themes are abundant in American popular culture and art. Music from the various Native American groups has many unique characteristics, but the tonal and harmonic palette associated with “tribal” music is both distinctive and elegant. This piece is not affiliated with any one tribe, but uses the familiar tonal palette of Native American music. Another hallmark of Native American music is present throughout the piece: unison, perpetual drumming. To emphasize this effect, the conductor may utilize all available percussionists by doubling the floor tom part.
