Inside the 2020 Concert Band release

Posted Apr 7, 2020

Here at GPG we're looking forward to the future and making music together again! We're envisioning ourselves learning, rehearsing and performing and wish the same for you as soon as we're on the other side of this! As such, we're very excited to announce the release of our New Concert Music for 2020! This year's release is packed with a variety of styles, grade levels, and two new composers!

We welcome Eric Burger into the family and are excited to publish his two new pieces. One is a setting of Three Madrigals arranged for concert band, and the other is a band setting of the popular hymn Let Thy Good Spirit. Eric is a practicing music educator in California. His writing is both accessible and interesting. Check them out!

Also new to GPG Music is Walt Lovell. Walt's new work titled Baile De Tarde Feliz (Happy Afternoon Dance) is a fun and festive Latin piece with a dramatic opening leading to the "dance" section which is sure to make your audience want to stand up and dance (or bailar)! The well-crafted combination of lyrical and punctuated sections flows effortlessly for the players. Plus, your percussionists will enjoy the tasty percussion interlude!

We're proud to add new works by several familiar names in the GPG catalog. Gary P. Gilroy's new works are best described as "signature Gary." His adorable new holiday piece for young band titled Reindeer Paws (no, that's not a typo!) will be sure to engage your students and delight your audience. Conversely, Reperio Veritatias is a monster Grade 5 masterpiece for advanced ensembles. It features an extended trombone feature guaranteed to impress the players and audience alike! Take a look and listen to this new gem in the band repertoire–it'll blow you away!

We also have two great new works from David Bobrowitz; the first is in the swing style and titled Every Night When the Sun Goes InThe second, March of the Carousel Horses, is a very accessible march for developing band. Kurtis Bertauche's new programmatic piece Blizzard evokes hints of Danny Elfman as he portrays the calm before the storm, the relentlessness of the wind and snow, a moment of reflection inside the eye of the storm, then a race to the conclusion! Indivisible by Shaun Salem is a clever exploration of the need for reunification of our nation while honoring one of our most important national icons: the Star-Spangled Banner.

These pieces are available immediately. Please visit our concert music page and listen to find your next piece!
